Operation Principles of the Latching Mechanism
The attractive force between the pole piece and plunger by which a valve's operation is produced varies according to three factors:
1. The distance between the pole piece and the plunger (the valve's stroke)
2. The magnetic force of the coil
3. The magnetic force of the permanent magnet.
According to the balance of this force with the spring, the valve changes between open and closed state.
The diagram below shows an example of the EL Series pinch valve.

Permanent magnet's attractive force < Spring
Power ON
Current flows to the coil, the electromagnetic force is created in such direction that the attractive force increases and becomes stronger than the spring. Then, the plunger moves towards the pole piece.
Power OFF
Permanent magnet's attractive power > Spring
The space between the pole piece and the plunger narrows and so the attractive force is strengthening. Even the magnetic force from the coil is cut, the attractive force is stronger than the force of the spring.
